HI,

I AM A FIRT-TIME HONDA OWNER. I DID BUY AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FROM HONDA FOR 100 MONTHS. NOW I AM HAVING SECOND THOUGJHTS ABOUT THE $2035 COST. HOWEVER, I CAN CANCEL THE CONTRACT AND GET A FULL REFUND.

WHAT DO YOU OTHER HONDA OWNERS THINK ABOUT EXTENDED WARRANTIES? I'M BEGINNING TO THINK THAT BECAUSE HONDA MAKES SUCH A RELIABLE CAR THAT THE WARRANTY MAY BE MONEY WASTED.

THANKS FOR YOUR INPUT.

GEORGE

Your thoughts on the subject of the reliability of this car is exactly what I was thinking as i was reading through your post. I would definately get the full refund as not only are they reliable but they are cheaper than that to repair. Around here you can actually buy a Honda CR-V for that amount. So in my opinion, get the refund!

If the car is running great for you and you do not want the extra cost, I think it would be fine to get the full refund.

A repair may cost you less than $2000, but if you are financing the $2000 it's spread out over 60-72 months rather than one large payment. On the other hand, you can put the $40+ a month you are going to save, and in 3 years when your warranty is up, you'll have a LARGE nest egg built up for repairs, or you can THEN decide to buy the extended warranty.

I'm with the others here. I don't see the point in buying a car you expect to be reliable then spending a bunch extra on an extended warranty you probably won't need.

GET THE MONEY BACK! EVEN IS SOMETHING GOES WRONG IT WILL BE COVERED FOR 36K OR 3 YEARS OR CHEAPER THAN WHAT YOU PAID TO EXTEND THE SERVICE.

MY WIFE ONCE DID THE SAME AS YOU ON A USED JEEP AND WHEN A PROBLEM CAME UP, THEY DID NOT COVER IT ANYWAY. WASTE OF 1600.00.

MY WIFE AND I HAVE OWNED 6 HONDA'S AND ALL OF THEM HAVE BEEN THE MOST RELIABLE CARS.
GOOD LUCK WITH SALES PEOPLE, THEY SURE CAN BE PUSHY.

MAJOR REPAIR

90 PRELUDE (NONE)
88 ACCORD (CLUTCH FIXED,
96 ACCORD 5SPD (NONE)
96 ACCORD AUTO (NONE)
2001 ACCORD AUTO (NONE)
2006 CRV EX AWD (RECENTLY GOT THE GEAR BOX FLUSHED; COVERED UNDER WARRANTY)

I am with everyone else on this one. I think you have a very reliable car and personally I have always felt that the extended warranty is a waste of money.

I agree that it would be a good idea to get the refund back.

I've never bought an extended warranty on a car, and I routinely refuse them on other products like electronics, too.

I would try to keep informed about whether there's been a recall for any reason. I've heard of some version of "recalls" where the owners weren't necessarily contacted. I know that sounds shady, but it was suggested by a mechanic when my wife was having her Saturn repaired. Maybe it wasn't technically a recall.

I'd expect this forum would be a great resource for keeping an eye on possible updates for new Hondas.
