I don't recommend it. It's too easy to get air bubbles and make the whole job look cheap. Better to leave it to the professionals.

Okay, you know those cars you see going down the road with the purple looking tint? That's a home job. Your tint will be more purple and less dark plus the air bubbles are inevitable. You will end up with quite a few of them no matter how hard you try not to. They even sell a tool that's supposed to eliminate the air bubbles for do it yourself tinting, but it is a huge waste of money. Save yourself the time and headache and get it professionally done.

I agree--get it professionally done. That purplish color really clashed with my paint job.

It probably would be smart to check your state's regulations regarding tinting as well. Some states only allow a certain amount to be added to a car.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) A friend of mine tried this on his Toyota and it was a DISASTER. There were bubbles all over the tinting and it started to peel off after only a couple of months. He had to have it removed and redone professionally, which of course cost way more than having it done in the first place. There are some things on which you just can't cut corners!

I've never completely understoon the whole tinting concept. I had the misfortune of driving one of these highly tinted vehicles and I about killed somebody backing up. You can't see ANYTHING!

I agree with Kelkat. On a '92 Accord I had, I ended up removing the tint on the windows because it was getting too annoying to see out the back. Plus air bubbles had invaded the tint, I'm not sure if the previous owner had done the tinting himself or if it was factory made, but it certainly didn't stand the test of time.

I had a friend that had real dark tint on his truck. One night at a party (he was COMPLETELY sober) he backed into my car and hit it hard enough to set it up on my brother's bumper. He couldn't see the cars through the tint.

I definitely agree with the others... professional is the only way to go. Our state has very strict guidelines for tinting. I got my Honda done by a professional, and there were still a couple of small air bubbles. It isn't worth the time or headache to do it on your own.

Just choose the amount of darkness you desire (that is still legal) and be sure to get a good installer. Word of mouth will often give you the best recommendation.

I'd still be careful with the tinting - especially if you do any night driving. The one time I drove a tinted car, I was shocked at how little I could see at night.

Definetly check state regs regarding tint levels but it is the drivers preference as for us down here in Texas tint is a wonderful thang.

I agree with getting the tinting professionally done. I have seen many people do it by themselves or go to someone and get it done very cheap. Preferably someone who has a damn good reputation. Those air bubbles and the purple look horrible.

I did my own window tint and it turned out great...just got to take your time. I got 20 percent tint and the state legal is 35 and the cops have never called me out on it...and yes i have been pulled over since i put it on.

My tint on the van is perfect. It's a little bit not too much. It was done in the factory and looks beautiful. A professional look is the best I think.

I personally would not attempt to do this myself. I have seen some crappy jobs when people have done it themselves. But I guess if you have the time to really make sure you do it right it could turn out good.

I know out here in Maryland...35% is the legal limit and it only cost $100.00 to do all 5 windows. They didn't use that cheap stuff that turns after a year or so...make sure you get the metalized tint. It won't fade on you. I also got a 5 year warranty on the tint. Check with tint shops on what's legal...they stay up on that.

In California, it's illegal to tint any of the front windows including the windshield and the 2 front door windows. People tint those windows anyway.

here in Massachusetts the legal tint % is 35% all around. Your allowed to tint 6" on the top of your windshield. Mirrored tint is not allowed here in MA.
