Hello,

I have a 97 CR-V, but its MPG is so low, just 15-18 miles per galon at
local, 20-22 on highway, does anybody have any idea why it is so low?
BTW, what MPG of your CR-V?

thanks!

How many miles are on it? What condition are your tires? What psi do
you keep the tires at? When was the last tune-up? When was the last
valve adjustment? How old are your air and fuel filters? All of these
things can affect mileage.

My '98 CR-V gets about 23-25 in mixed driving. We do have something
funny going on though, it looks like the engine isn't running right
because I think I've just burned through another cat. The engine light
is getting annoying so I guess I'll have to figure this thing out.

Could be valve adjustment, timing problems, timing belt problems (slipped a
tooth), leaky injectors, clogged exhaust, dragging brakes, O2 sensor bad, heavy
foot, bad fuel regulator, etc. etc.

Do yourself or have a mechanic do a full inspection: timing, compression, shoot
a temp gun at the brakes (looking for a hot one), etcv.

My '98 5-speed gets exactly the same...23-25mpg for local stuff. On
long trips, it normally gets 26-28. I don't think mine has even gotten
less than 20. Sounds like good advise to have yours checked out.

Wow! You guys are lucky. My 16-month old CRV with auto
transmission only gets about 12 mpg (5.5 km/l). But
that's with the very bad traffic conditions here in
Manila.

it is 86644 miles, and I just bought it from a dealer, they said
they have changed oil and air filter, and the previous owner changed
timing belt at 70000 miles. The tires look like new, and the Psi is
normal.
