I've 1998 Honda Accord EX-V6 and it has 177,000 miles. When I accerlate, it will make whistling noise from passenger side of engine. It will increase with incresing rpm. When I'm driving and notice the noise, I would shift the gear into neutral and the noise seems to be subsiding. When I turn on the engine the noise seems to be at the minimum level. Raving the engine(increasing the rpm) increases the noise. It also makes repeating ticking noise. I've change the timing belt and water pump at 90,000 miles. When I change these parts the parts look fairly brand new. I've not adjusted valves yet.
Some people metion it might be bearing on pully, and other said timing belt problem.
Help.

Thanks.

It's both Bearing and Timing Belt.

The ticking noise may be the valves needing a lash adjustment. The specs will be on the sticker under the hood. As you have a v6, the back bank of cylinders is hard to get to and you might want to have someone do it for you, although it's sort of labor intensive and isn't cheap. If you don't mind the noise, it doesn't really hurt things.

Probably want to check for vacuum leaks. Because there are vacuum lines that connect to various parts on the passenger side of the engine compartment.

When you changed the timing belt before did you change the tensioner? Noises like this can often be diagnosed with a mechanics stethescope. Because of the engine speed dependent nature of the noise, it's almost certainly one of the engine driven accessories. Check the belts, pullies, and idlers.

Whistling noise from the engine? Just whistle along! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) Just kidding! I had to get my timing belt replaced on one of my other cars. That's what they said. So I took it to get it changed, and it did work better after that. I could tell a big difference. But at the time, I kept wondering how important a timing belt could be? That was a Chrysler Concorde, and we had it at the garage often.
