I need to replace the tires on my '97 CR-V (33K miles). Any recommendations?
I've seen the Pirelli 400's for $68 each, the Kirkland's (Costco's private
label
Uniroyal's for $48), and General's for $48.

I'm leaning toward the Pirelli's despite the higher cost since in general
I've had
bad experiences with several other Kirkland products. The Kirkland's have an
80K
treadlife warranty but you have to have them inspected every 7500 miles or
the
warranty is void-talk about worthless warranties.

I never go off road, but I'd like something that does okay in snow.

You may also try www.tires.com and www.tirerack.com

They have a nice selection in our size.

Discount Tire has the Pirellis for $58 just a bit more than the
Tire Rack price, and they have stores here. For some reason Discount
Tire lists the wrong tire size if you search by vehicle, 205 65 15
rather than 205 70 15, but it's only wrong for the '97s. Or maybe
early 1997 CR-Vs had a different size tire.

How about BFG Radial TA with white letters? Cost $60 or so at Costco as
well. Don't go with the Kirland series. If you really want street
tires that perform well, go with the Dunlop A60 D2 which costs about $60
as well.

I have 36K on my original BFGs and the tire place says I could go for
8-10K more....we've to see about that!

Some places do have the CRVs at 205/65/15 for some reason. Hmmn...

Boy all this activity is alost too much for me to handle ;-)

Seems to me that the tires our vehicles came with are really inexpensive at
most discount tire places. Mine has the BF G's and I notice some has
Uniroyal's. I like both.

Everyone says the Uniroyals are terrible. My CR-V
came with Bridgestones, but I don't purchase any
Bridgestone/Firestone products for moral reasons, so
I won't get the same ones even if they are available
at retail (usually OEM tires are very low end specials
done only for the vehicle manufacturer).

Costco used to carry Yokohamas at a good price, but
stopped. Yokohamas are way too expensive at regular
tire stores as they are very highly rated.

So it looks like Pirelli's at Discount Tire. Auto Parts
Club also has 'em but for $10 more each. They also have
General's at about $50 each (buy 3 get one free).

I think either one of those would be fine too. General Tire's , I don't
know much about, but I hear they're good. The Pirelli's are excellent.

What are your moral reasons for staying away from
Bridgestone/Firestone? Just curious.

Yes I'm curious too! I buy Exxon gas - yeah yeah I know they spilled a lot
of oil once, but now they donate a part of their proceeds to "Save the
Tigers" :-)
