I'v been using regular gas on daily basis since I got the car about 6 months ago, and I would like to know if I would get better performace if I used plus or premium? One of my friends told me that putting higher octayne gas on ur car once in a while is good for it....should I switch over from regular? thank you (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Personally I think premium is just a waste of money. But other's on here may feel differently. I have never noticed a difference myself.

Regular high quality commercial gas. None of that privately owned gas crap.
Recommend: Chevron, Costco, That's it.

According to experts who study fuel efficiency in detail, is both regular and premium gasoline. And it would be a waste of money to favor premium over regular, especially in these times when gasoline prices are high, according to the experts.

Virtually nothing is gained by filling up with a premium or more expensive grade of fuel than the vehicle manufacturer has recommended, the experts say. And many of the same experts explain that drivers may not lose much performance from their cars by using a lower grade of fuel than recommended by the car manufacturer.

There is little difference in energy content of regular versus premium gasoline. They both contain about 111,400 British Thermal Units of energy per gallon.

USE 89 octane, but use it from a TOP TIER reseller... Texaco, Shell, Chevron... No am/pm crap

Well, that is exactly what I use in the van. It's 89 octane at the Texaco station. Thankfully it's right down the street from me. It's always on th way so I never go out of my way for gas. By the time you go 10 miles to get the cheap gas, you waste gas just getting there. It isn't worth it at all. So thanks for the insight at the fuel pumps of America.

Generally speaking, manufacturers will put more cleaning detergents into the higher grades. It's a bit of a marketing gimmick, but I'm inclined to believe that it does work or the Top Tier guys wouldn't make such a big fuss. The thing with Top Tier (which I personally believe in) is that a certain level of detergency is required to avoid long term deposit buildup, and it should be accessible in all grades of gas.

The reason higher octane ratings exist is because some higher performance engines require it to avoid engine damage. Higher compression makes these engines more likely to experience detonation. The same is true for older engines with excessive combustion chamber deposits, which introduce hot spots and increase the compression ratio. However, I would advocate cleaning of the engine with seafoam or another concentrated cleaner.

I have never heard of seafoam cleaner to clean the engine. That's gets it clean on the inside. I'll have to check it out. I looked it up, and they use it in the car. The video showed a car running with bluish smoke from the muffler. They had an add for the seafoam. People who used said the car ran smoothly after that.
