Just saw an episode of Car and Driver TV where they were reviewing the
Pontiac Vibe. They referred to the V as a "mommy mobile". Ouch!
David B
ps Of course with the exception of those of you V owners who are
actually moms. You could call this a "male-oriented post".

Ahh, who cares what they say! Everytime, I tell my boss how much I
like our CR-V, he gives me the same line of crap. I bought the 2001
CR-V SE for my wife, and I find myself waiting for the weekends just
to drive it.

One thing I really like about these little SUV's, is how easy they
are to fix up. I've added the side sport bars, the roof rack, pin
stripe, a Putnam towing hitch + trailer wiring, rear cargo net, and
the sunglass holders all within the last 3 weeks.

I've ordered the passenger arm rest, front mud flaps, and the wood
grain stereo mask. They should be here next week. These accessories
are so easy to install because Honda has everything pre-drilled. I'm
saving a bundle of money doing it myself, and our CR-V looks awesum.

Check out http://www.hondasuv.com for other's who've upgraded their
CR-V's. There're a lot of guys in that forum, I'm pretty sure.

I think there are lots of moms driving them, but guys are more geeky about
it and more interested in tricking them out, driving them where they're not
supposed to, working on them, not taking them to the dealer for problems
they can fix themselves, etc... so more men end up in these CRV forums. My
wife loves my new CRV, but she would never belong to online groups dedicated
to it.

For me the decision to drive a CR-V had nothing to do with my gender. I bought the CR-V because I have a 200 mile trip that I have to make at least once a week, and that trip includes crossing the Cascade mountains on one of its most inhospitable passes. I drove several AWD and 4WD vehicles and made my decision based on factors including fuel economy, snow handling, interior room, looks, and overall reliability. In these categories the Honda CR-V opens up a can of "whupass" on all competitors. The fact that it is a kick to drive AND to park around town, is just gravy on Gravy Train.

And speaking of parking...aren't these "wonder-mobiles" agile in the
parking lot? (fantastic when it comes to parallel parking) Don't ya
hate those people with their boats that take at least two tries to
maneuver those way too big 'o cars or suvs and always seem to be a
little too big for that parking space. Myself I park way away from the
idiots. I could stand the long walk to the Supercenter. Need the
excercise anyway I can.

Bet it has more to do with the GM advertising $$, then the car.
Why were they reviewing the Vibe, and not the Matrix?

When you look at the front end of the Vibe you see Pontiac instantly.
They did mention the Matrix. Are you serious with your accusations
about what I understand is..."payola"? A few grand and Car and Driver
TV magazine will tell you the Aztek or the Liberty are beautiful? Isn't
that wrong? Wouldn't C and D ruin their reputations? Does Beaver
Cleaver really exist? Or is the world full of Eddie Haskells? Long
live TV Land and Nick at Nite. Too much TV...not enough CR-V. It's
been winter long enough. I need a day of fishing real soon.

Hey all........
Car and driver can say what they want but the reliably of a CRV surpasses
all the other SUV's that I have owned. It is amazing how they can all be such
critics of a car that has provided so much enjoyment for so many..... I think
that Car and Driver if not happy with the redesigned CRV and the old CRV can
go drive a domestic SUV and enjoy the repairs.
Thanks all
97 V with 145000 miles..........

This is common in magazine publishing but it is not really as blatant as an envelope full of money given directly to writers and editors. Companies that advertise in magazines spend bundles of cash to do so, and obviously a car company wants good ad placement in a car magazine.

Negotiations about placement and ad costs go on all the time between magazines and corporations. Paying a bit more money for "placement extras" can result in tremendous pressures being brought to bear on editorial staff to "like this car". Since the appearance of the car is a completely subjective element, it is the easiest thing to "fudge" in favor of the car company.

Read the article-ESPECIALLY the specs page- carefully. If the praise of the vehicle is superficial and the specs don't add up to the "splendiferous car that can do it all" that is being described in the copy, you can interpret that as a big ad budget for that vehicle.

I call that paper racing The best way to compare cars is to drive them
yourself! :-)

And that's why I subscribe to Consumer Reports. And it's not because
they love the V.
