I was sold VTR for $195.00 when I bought my 2002 Honda CR-V.

I understand it stands for Vehicle Theft Registration. It identifies
every Honda part if it is recovered from being stolen. What use is
this if they find a car in pieces?

In the State of Hawaii we do not get an insurance credit for this.

Any comments on this?

Thanks

Tom

Sounds like BS to me. Every MAJOR car component is traceable via stamped VIN
and/or serial number by default.

The concept is that it makes the car less desirable to a theif.
Maybe true for a professional planning on chopping it, probably does
nothing to stop joy ridders.

In my State, VTR doesn't immediately lower insurance, side airbags and ABS
do. If VTR "Vehicle Theft Registration" reduces the number of stolen
vehicles with your make/model, then the overall insurance costs will be less
for your particular vehicle.

My insurance company doesn't like turbo equipped cars due to their accident
rates. Two door cars are more costly to insure than 4 door cars, again due
to accident rates. Some cars are more to insure because they are more
costly to repair after an accident. Thieves may like a particular
make/model, that can increase insurance costs dramatically.

Injury rates in accidents are evaluated for make/models too and they affect
insurance costs. A few years ago, a Volvo 240 was the safest vehicle to
drive in the USA!! thus low insurance costs.

A Toyota Supra was the most expensive car to insure a few years ago.
When shopping for a new or used vehicle and insurance costs are a major
concern, call and ask how much it will cost to insure each of the
make/models you are considering. I avoided the Toyota Supra when I heard
the insurance quote!!

If you have a YOUNG driver on your policy, it is must that you check
insurance costs for the vehicle you purchase for them. Junior might want
the IMPREZA WRX TURBO, but who is going to pay the insurance.
