I have been working with a guy trying to figure out why his VTEC is not kicking in on his B18A that has been lovingly annointed with a B16A head. The wiring seems to check out, and the ECU is working fine (we have swapped it into another car and it worked fine Vtec and all) There was apparently some concern at the time of the head swap that maybe the modification for the oil was not quite done right, and he seems to think that that would keep the Vtec from working. I have my doubts, and as far as I can tell the head was properly installed. I am thinking that there is a simple (OK maybe not so simple) reason for the Vtec not coming on. I really need some suggestions. Like I said we tried his ECU in another car and it worked. Someone else checked the wiring and said it is good. And frankly all I know to do now is to stare at it while drinking all of the poor bastards beer. I dont think that doing that is helping him very much.

Did you modify the block and head for the VTEC to get oil or did you run a pressure line from the oil sensor port on the back of the motor?
Did you try the solenoid on the other engine?
Glenn

Pressure line from sensor port, and yeah, (sorry forgot to mention that) the solenoid seems to be fine. The guy who checked the wiring checked that, The problem there is I don't know that guy and don't know if he is on the ball there or not. Maybe I should sort of quietly chack that out. (Don't want to offend my buddy by acting like I don't trust his friends ability, but...)

That's a good question. We are supposed to look at it again Monday after work. I'll let you know then.

Yup, low oil pressure to the soleniod. (We discovered after 2 beers.) The started on it, and I went home to try to get my radiator out. (Up to my elbows in angst) Core support damaged, so the radiator is partly stuck. But the Vtec is working on the B18 Hybred. Thanks bro, you da best!
