How's it goin guys, I've been trying to post but my old membership wasnt working (formerly 19932002acuravigor) but i did manage to post some pics of my vig :). Anyways I had to jump my vig every other day last week in the morning to get it started.. I finally took the battery in and tested it at sears and they said it was dead and wouldnt hold a charge so i got a new one on warranty. Well, when i put the new battery in i went to start the car and nothing. The stereo and lights work, but it wont even start to crank, it just clicks once. So i'm guessing that it's my starter motor right?? Is there anything else that might cause the old vig not to start? I checked the fuses and made sure its in park...does the factory alarm have something weird that disables the starter if the battery is disconnected for a long time? Any help would be great thanks guys! oh and if it is the starter motor, where is it??? and how easy of a job is it to replace? thanks_

the starter motor is pretty easy to replace, its located underneath the intake manifold near the top of the engine i believe. ive never replaced mine but i will probably need to soon. as for the starting problem, it could be the alarm i guess, or the starter selenoid. to tell you the truth i really don't know. the selenoid is located on the back of the starter motor. see what the other guys say. brian

the old timers trick to testing starters... hook 12 volts up right to the starter. see if it kicks on. this has worked on 1970's GM cars for me. i'd be very cautious about trying it on something with a computer and high-tech things. make sure the car is in park or neutral, e-brake on. the ground wire is already on the starter (on domestics, the ground wire from the battery runs right to the starter in many cases) and there'll be a huge terminal for the positive. should be a relay on or near it. not sure how it goes on the Vigors. i've done this with jumper cables. be careful! if you don't feel safe doing it, DON'T. just a thought though. :) might be easier to test it this way once it's out and on the workbench. -sealover

thanks for the help again guys, i might try that sealover but with someone with me that knows more than me of course. So brian, do you get to the starter from underneath the car then? or is it easier to get to from above??

the starter is easier to get to from the top of the car. ill take a pic of it so u can get an idea of the location and the best angles to get at it. sealover had a good idea, i would definitely try that just hook power up directly from the battery if you don't have it fixed by now. brian
