I was planning on doing the tune-up on my 1999 CRV.
I was wondering what needs to be done as part of a "tune-up"
procedure (besides changing the air filter and spark plugs)? Are
there any instructions available online?

Thanks,

Vadim

Hi my name is kam. I recently did a tune-up on my wife 2000 CRV- AWD with 42k. I bought a manual at honda dealer for $23 and its very clear with picture and diagram. The manual is not made by honda, but by the name start with letter "C" and it the only one they have there for honda crv and odessey. You can get it at auto parts store, but don't get manual by Bently because I also have that and not very clear. For my wife tune up I replaced spark plug, cap&rotor, fuel filter, air filter, replace transmission  fluid(3bottle) get at honda if automatic, replaced rear differentail axle fluid (double pump) also from dealer. I then checked valve clearence and most of my valve exhaust was tighten even though honda manual say adjust at 105k. Get the manual read up on it and go for it. You will save lots of money by doing it yourself. Please let me know if I can answer anymore question.

How long did it take to perform the tune up? Was it a weekend job or more like a
week-long job?

Thank you very much, Kam!

I think I found the manual you are refering to. Is it Chilton's
Honda-CR-V/Odyssey 1995-00 (amazon has it for $16.77)? I'll order it
and try to do the tune-up myself.

Thanks again,

Vadim

Hi, you could do all this in under 2hours. The transmission fluid is just a drained and replaced with 3bottle honda fluid. The transmission has no filter unlike your ordinary transmission. The rear differiental axl is the same drained and refilled with "double pump fluid" from honder dealer only. Fill with hand held pump or long neck funnel until fluid start to flow out. The valve clearance take me about an hour because I was taking my time, but can be done in less time. For the fuel filter replacement you first must relief the fuel pressure by opening the gas cap then you simply undo the top bolt and bottom. I would highly recomment you get a service manual by CHILTON for honda crv/oddessy 1995-2000 its very clear with picture. You can get this manual at your local auto parts store or at honda dealer for $23 or online at amazon.com for $16.
