I found out the hard way about 2 years ago, the
only filter in these guys is a small metallic screen
that is only accessible after a teardown of the trans
(in this case a '92 EX auto which I assume has
virtually the same drivetrain as the LX).

A fluid
change will most likely improve your situation, however
at the same time I'd install an external
transmission fluid filter inline with one of the hoses leading
to the cooler (part of the radiator assembly). This
will help to catch foreign matter, friction material,
etc. that would otherwise build up on that internal
filter, reduce fluid pressure and cause shift problems.
It's much easier to replace an add-on filter every 24K
miles, I think I paid an extra $20 for it after a
rebuild. I'd double-check with an expert on this one but
it seems logical to have the filter placed between
the radiator's outlet and the transmission's inlet,
to keep out any foreign matter from the radiator as
well before the fluid goes back into the trans.
