I started car on an incline and it seems like the something poped in
the manual transmission. From that moment on, it was not possible to
put car in 1st gear. Being stuck in middle of road, I put car in
neutral and by gravity rolled down the hill.
After AAA tow to garage, mechanic wants to install a junkyard
transmission and then check if new clutch is needed.
I never had transmission problem before, so I don't understand
differences between transmission repair, rebuilt ttransmission and
junkyard transmission. I wonder if problem is realy with clutch rather
than transmission.
Before this incident, car started making strange noise during
acceleration but would subside as speed leveled off. I never paid any
attention to it until it was too late.
What diagnostic can be done to determine root cause(s) of problem?
How can it be determined if problem is with cluth, transmission, both
and/or other?
I am trying to determine how to fix it.
Any clues appreciated. Thanks in advance.
