Yes, the CR-V is not perfect, which NO VEHICLE made is completely problem free, ESPECIALLY SUV's. My 1999 CR-V EX 5-Speed, which is one of the five vehicles I own has less than 20k miles, so time and miles are low. I have a manual transmission and believe the "lurking" you describe is an automatic problem.
IF IT MAKES YA HAPPY; My CR-V does have an annoying problem with the lower seat adjustment gradually letting the seat lower itself while driving long distances. I like the thigh support up high, the vehicle must like it low LOL! If I took the time, the adjustment knob probably needs a little tightening.
If real problems that are engineered into a car make you happy, buy a Plymouth Breeze/Dodge Stratus. We have them as lease vehicles at work, true crap. They keep blowing crank seals and the oil lights have yet to work on the vast majority when this happens. Oh, we also have a Ford full-size Van that the ABS "locks" the rear wheels at random, can be fun and dangerous at very interesting times. The aforementioned vehicles have less than 10,000 miles and are in the shop constantly for the same problems. VERDICT FROM THE SHOP: Poor manufacturer engineering but they'll keep fixing them under warranty! Someone (MANY?) has to die in a crash from the ABS or a blown motor malfunction before major manufacturer action.
