I will need to replace my tires soon on my 98 CRV. I would like to go to a
much wider tire than the stock 205 70 R15. I've seen 215's in use and on
occasion I've noticed wider tires on a CRV while driving. I'm wondering what
the maximum width is that can be used on the stock aluminum wheels and if a
custom wheel is used, what the max width could be before having problems
with wheel well clearance, road noise, etc. Also, would it be necessary to
go to a larger wheel size. If anyone has experimented or used wider tires,
I'd appreciate hearing about how they performed.
Thanks.

I have a set of 16 x 7 inch rims that I am putting on my V next year... the
tire size I am planning on going with is 235/55-16 and thus far no one has
told me not to.

Rene,
Wow! 235's. I'm interested in how they work out. I'd be concerned about the
front having enough clearance when turning...guess it will be a while before
you know.
thanks for the reply...I've not been with this group long but, when
I initially signed up all I got was spam...so this is refreshing, actually
seeing dialogue about honda's

I'm interested as well... I have heard of people using 235s on the stock 15
inch rims but nothing about 16 inch rims. I can't wait though, should look
sweet, Motegi MR7 Gunmetal 16 inch rims on my tinted, black CR-V.

rj-thanks for the tire feedback. I checked out another CRV in a parking lot
the other day. The guy had 255/45/17's on...didn't appear to have any
problems with clearance.
