Hi All,

'99 CR-V, LX, 59,350 miles.

I hear a strange ticking sound form the back of the CR-V only when it
is moving. No noise when stationary.

Any help/hint appreciated.

Regards,

I also have a '99 CRV LX and I heard a noise at the back of the CRV when I tried to accelerate. This usually occurs when you are at a low speed an try to accelarate (i.e. merging from a highway, running on a slightly uphill). It will go away after 1-2 seconds. No noise when you're on stationary speed.

This reminds me of my 4-wheeler from Honda. They seems to use the same concept on clutch packs. I added the red GM anti-slip fluid for posi-trac rear ends in the housing, and the noise goes away. I did this to my Honda CRV (2000) and everything's just works better, and no noise. Some do it worse than others but the trick works very well. You need to add almost the full bottle on CRV's, and one ounce if you use it in your 4-wheeler.

Thank you all for such quick response!

I'll try out all suggestions and report back.

Steve, the CR-V I drive is FWD. Does that change your diagnosis?

Thanks again,

You need to replace the rear differential fluid, but
di use the HONDA fluid and not the GM fluid as
suggested by Steve.

Actually, I hear it all the time while running. No noise when
stationary or just starting to move. The frequency of the ticking is
proportional to the speed of travel.

Thanks.

How easy (or tough) is the job? Do I need to take the CR-V to the
Honda-dealer?

I am still waiting for my manual.

You can do that yourself if you wish, purchase the
fluid form HONDA and go for it not a hard job.

I don't know if your saying 4 wheel drive with the FWD acronym or front wheel drive. I use the fluid on both the front and back of mine. Mine is a SE 4 wheel drive.

Sorry, I should have made it more clear. Yes, I meant Front Wheel
Drive by FWD, the other one being All Wheel Drive - AWD.

Thanks,

Did you get a chance to check your brakes? Sounds to me like there might be
something that's brushing up against some part of your V.

Good luck,
Bing
