My car is a 1991 Honda Civic Si with a 1.6 engine. It always starts up just fine, yet if I leave it in the sun for a couple hours it wont want to start. I have to open the hood and let air flow thru it for 5 minutes before it will start. I have to make sure that the engine is facing away from the sun when the hood is open to let the air flow thru as well. I believe it may be overheating the starter when its sitting in the sun. Any idea's?

Well this really is a strange problem which I never heard of. Problem parking it in sun, doesn't start if left in sun is really strange. Take it to the nearest showroom may be they can exactly check out what is the problem. It might be related to some kind of over heating, but can't be sure about it.

Yeah, I tried it once and they couldn't simulate the problem. I'll definately try again though. It was funny, they had it from Friday to Monday and just couldn't recreate the problem.

That is strange all around. And then not to have them be able to get it to do the same thing when they had it is strange. I have a friend that works on cars I will run it by him if I see him tomorrow. I have never heard anything like this before.

That is a unique problem about being in the sun. It would be hard to explain to the dealer. Maybe it's overheating or air intake problem. I really don't know.

Just an off the wall thought but is it possible that the sun is evaporating something like the water? I don't know it is just such a weird problem. If you figure it out please let us know because I am stumped. I have not talked to my friend yet but he is suppoused to return my call today.

Does the fuel pump primes when you turn the ignition on while the CEL is on? If it doesn't then your problem could be the main relay which is very common on Hondas.

Sorry I didnt reply back. It does prime, I think I may have fixed it. I cleaned up the air filter and checked for any gunk or anything in the airway. It seems to have worked. I will definately check the relay if it does proceed!
