Has anyone heard or used of a spare tire-mounted bike carrier? I have
a 2002 CRV and would like another solution besides a roof carrier of
hitch carrier. Thanks in Advance.

Yes, I have the Swagman spare tire 3 bike rack. Works very nice and can even
open the hatch while the bikes are on it. I have a 99 V. Here's what it looks
like.

I just purchased an Allen 304ST model spare tire bike rack for my 2001.  It works great and is quite stable. It holds up to three bikes (though I've only tried it with two).    I paid $80 with free shipping from www.plaines.com . (other prices ranged from $75-95 with up to $37.00 for shipping).   email me at

I have a question for people who have used the spare tire bike racks. Is the
spare tire mount itself (the mount on which the spare tire is hooked up to the
tailgate) strong enough to actually hold multiple bikes at the end of it? It
looks like the mount is only attached to some sheet metal on the tailgate. For
those of you who have used it a lot, how long have you used your spare tire
bike racks, how often do you use them, and how heavy are your bikes. I
currently have a Rhode Gear Pro bolt on spare tire shuttle. I've only used it
twice. But, since I've seen the inside of the tailgate, I'm not so sure
whether it is a good idea to have the tailgate support a couple of heavy bikes.

What do you think?
