This question was asked here but no one found an answer.
I copied from another CR-V Board.

Are you sick of the automatic a/c feature while in defrost mode ?
Before you pull out all ur remaining hair trying to figured out why
or how to disable it... Well, it's there for a reason. What you may
not realize is that the air conditioner does two things. It lowers
the temperature of the air. But more importantly, it also removes the
moisture. That's the "conditioning" part. And in fact, many cars
automatically turn on the air conditioner when you turn on the
defroster. That's o.k. but da problem is they won't let you turn the
a/c off again while 'defrost' is still on... !!! Help !!!

To deactivate automatic a/c feature on 2002 CR-V

1) Turn vehicle off.
2) Turn fan knob off.
3) Turn temperature knob all the way to the left (blue area).
4) Turn vent knob to panel only setting (next to max a/c).
5) Hold down both air recirculation button and a/c button while
starting car.
6) Continue holding for 7 seconds until air recirculation button
stops flashing.

To reactivate automatic a/c feature on 2002 CR-V

1) Turn vehicle off.
2) Turn fan knob off.
3) Turn temperature knob all the way to the left (blue area).
4) Turn vent knob all the way to the right (defrost position).
5) Hold down both air recirculation button and a/c button while
starting car.
6) Continue holding for 7 seconds until air recirculation button
stops flashing.

that's cool - I was wondering about shutting the a/c off as sometimes I like
the floor/defrost setting for heat to diffuse it a little more, rather than
roasting my feet and costing me hp. - Larry

Not necessary - it comes "standard equipment" on the pre-2002's.
