I recently bought a 2000 CR-V EX. It came with a standard remote keyless
entry. I was wondering if I purchase a Honda security unit...can I still use
the same remote for it. What do I need to buy? Can I install it myself? Do
I just plug in the alarm to an exixting harness? I need some info........

Hi Speedmaster,

The factory alarm gives you two remotes that look similar to the original remotes except they have a panic button.  You do have to use the new remotes in order to effectively use the alarm.  If you use the old remotes all you will do is lock the vehicle without activating the alarm.

I had my dealer install it so the warranty will be in effect.  You could install it yourself, but it does require some drilling for the alarm activation LED and the valet button.  I am not sure about the wiring harness, but most likely it is fairly straight forward to connect.

I also had the dealer install a Lo-Jack for more protection.
