I currently own a black on black s2000, and previously owned a 1999 boxster (which my brother owns now). Both cars are awesome. But I would have to say I like the s2000 a little better.
The only things I liked better about the boxster was the radio (although not that greatest, it was still better than the s2000), the convertible top, both the materials they are made out of and the way they fold down (s2000 requires a boot to look good), the storage space was close to equal (although the Porsche had a lot more space, you couldn?t fit two sets of golf clubs in the car, with a little work the s2000 could. Everything else I like the s2000 better.
It accelerates better (can beet a boxster by 1/2 car to 40mph, by 2 cars to 80mph, and 4+ cars to 120mph. With a good start the car can beat a 91-96 vette to 80, and is about a 1/2 car length back by 120.
Handling is very close, both handle awesome, but the s2000 feels better.
Braking again is similar, and again s2000 just feels better.
Overall ride, once again both are similar. Both handle Michigan roads quite well, and both feel solid. S2000 rides a little smoother, but feels a little light in the back end when you hit a bump.
Engine, Both are awesome, but you just have to love a 9000 rpm redline. The s2000 just pulls a lot harder than the Porsche at all speeds. The lack of torque is not bad at all.
The only real dislike I have with the s2000 is the noise the transmission makes in the 2-4k rpm range when you decelerate using the engine. Very annoying and needs to be addressed. I thought something was wrong with my car, but after taking it to the dealer and driving another s2000 I found out that it is normal. Oh yeah one more thing, the shifter is unbelievable. The throws are so short and smooth its crazy. I had a short throw shifter in my 94 supra turbo, and the s2000 shift just dusts it. Honestly, that?s probably one of the reasons why I bought the car. For those interested in the s2000 it?s a great car, you won?t be disappointed. Wind noise is no worse then any other car, engine noise is also not that bad, equal to a Porsche going 70 and maybe a little louder going 85. The radio isn?t that bad. Standing still it sounds decent, going 40 it is not too bad, you just can?t hear it from 55 on.
All in all it?s a great car. IF ANYONE IS LOOKING TO BUY ONE IM SELLING MINE FOR 31,700. ITS PERFECT, AND HAS 14,000 MILES ON IT. Email me at supra_tt_1994@...
