Hi everyone I have a 1998 Civic. Sometime when I accelerate in front of green traffic light (accelerate from stop), I felt that my car rumble for a short time (less than 2 second). I don't know what cause that. It usually happen during I press the gas pedal a little harder than normal. Otherwise, the car seems no problem. Does anyone have any idea on this? Any comment and suggestion? Thanks for your help!! Vince

That is caused by the car being  piece of shit. Civics are economy cars.  You get what you pay for....

It's a damn shame when people feel the need to express anti-civic opinions in response to a legitimate question on a civic group. Especially when said people have occasionally shown some brains in the past. Nobody finds blatent rudness the least bit funny, and it certainly isn't going to cause the person asking the question to suddenly go out and trade his car in for what others deem suitable. So why not give everybody a break, back off your high horse and focus on what this group is for, Honda Civics. They may not be the best sports car available, but what they are is a great starting point for many people into the world of modifying and personalizing cars. The fact is the Civic is a damn fine car and not a piece of shit as is often stated by some here. To try to help with the question at hand, I have a few of my own. Is it possible that it is simply losing traction and spinning the tires a bit when you give it more throttle? Has it always done this? If not, how long has it been doing it and how many miles on the clock? Have there been any changes to the drivetrain? Is it a manual or auto transmission? My '95 EX with manual tranny and some mods would spin it's stock size tires effortlessly in first gear if I stomped on it, sometimes with some tire hop. Maybe after you give us a little more info about the problem some others here with more mechanical knowledge will give more help than a simple minded "it just sucks". Doug One squashed '95 EX Coupe http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/rz_racer_69/lst?.dir=/Civic+destruction!/ PS. I really enjoyed my Civic. It was a fun, light, lively car to drive until some stupid unattentive(or stoned)bitch took it away from me and almost killed me in the process. I have to say after being rear-ended at 65mph, slammed into a suburban, then knocked into oncoming traffic and another head-on collision with a freakin Lincoln Navigator that Civics crash well!!! I was released that same night from the trauma ward with only minor internal and external injuries and amazingly nothing broken. Ya'll be careful out there!

I have to agree with you about the Civic. I have been lurking for a while just reading the posts. I love my Civic. I have a 2002 EX and its probably the best car I have ever owned. It will spin the tires in 1st and spin 'em again in 2nd. It handles well though the tires break and the steering squirrels a bit under accelleration. But I think that is just front wheel drive. This car comes with a 1.7 liter SOHC. I am planning on a cat back exhaust to give it a ittle better sound and some different wheels when I wear these out (which won't be long the way I drive). Has anyone with an '02 tried putting larger tires on their car? I have 15" now and I have been thinking something like 17". But I wonder about the clearance. After the car is a little older and maybe after I have a second car to fall back on, I might like to try adding a turbo and some internal upgrades to support it. For now its mostly cosmetic additions. I'm also scanning the ads for a body kit. Any ideas here? Brian Crozier Newark, Delaware
