I've seen customized low riding cars around, but my 89 Civic has always been pretty low.

I've never driven another Civic. Have they been designed to be higher in the years since then?

Yes:

This is a 2000 EX with stock springs and an aftermarket rear swaybar. Though it should be noted that it is on 195/50r15's (Miata tires) so that makes it appear higher.

The 2000 Si's are lower, but then the next generation were all even a little higher.

The rooflines went up drastically in 2001 to accomidate European and American heights - I'm 5'10" and nearly brush my head on the ceiling.

I'm 5 10 and I have made contact with my head while getting out of the car, but not often.

Thanks for posting the pictures. That car looks like it's really performing, judging by the way the passenger side rear tire is off the ground in the second picture.
