When I did my valves I disconnected the battery and now my '98 EX
radio needs a code punched in to function. We bought our V used
from a private owner with no mention of the code. Called a couple
dealers which could only tell me the radio needs to be pulled to get
a code off the back which can then be used to find the code to punch
in. My wife even called Honda direct and was told the same thing.
I checked the owners manual and no codes were written in by hand.

Any suggestions or do I just need to pull the radio?

My first
thought was, CRV radios suck and I would replace it.  Then, I noticed that you did your own valve job and probably
aren’t a rich prick like me (not that you wouldn’t want to be).

If you get
the shop manual for the vehicle (from a dealer) you will use for the rest of
the vehicle’s life and will never doubt whether you can do a repair or
not.  The one I got for my 89
prelude has paid for itself at least a dozen times.

Now you could
get a stereo installer to pull the radio for about $40, but that is only $10
less expensive than the shop manual which will definitely show you how to get
the stereo out.

I agree with Groff.  I also bought a used CR-V.  I removed my radio, brought it and my title to the dealer and they looked it up for me.  I needed to bring my title to let them know that I did not steal the radio.

I ended up pulling the radio, got the serial # off the top, and
called it into my local dealer and they gave me the code to unlock
it. Not a hard radio to pull out, although prying the big oval that
holds the radio as the last step is a bit tricky. I left a couple
minor marks around the edge that may smooth out once it warms up
outside, but I'm not real worried about it.
