Has anyone done it?? Were there any horrible results as my Honda
Dealer warns me? The 205's just look a little small.....

What horrible results are they speaking sbout.  The next time that your dealer tries to scare you out of buying the exact same tire that is 10 centimeters wider, ask for a detailed explanation.  This tire that you wish to buy is one size wider than the P205's.  I don't think that it should be a concern.  There are times when you go two or three sizes wider and it causes rubbing when you turn.

One test for you to do is to turn your wheel all the way to the right, then to the left. Look at the clearance when your wheel reaches each end point.  You never know.  Maybe Honda designed your CR-V with such close tolerences that it does not allow for a tire upgrade.  let me know what you find.

I can see your point, which makes me wonder if I am not sharing the
wrong info. I don't want wider tires, I want the next size taller.
The service guy explained that the computer is programmed to the fuel
injection system to deliver X amount of gas at X speed. He said
there were a number of other examples. Of course, the tire height
would affect this, I just don't know to what extent.

Talk to the people at TireRack (TireRack.com).
They are experts on what tires and wheel fit which cars and what the
likely effects are.
The car does not know how fast it is going, only how fast the wheels
are turning. Changing tire size by a small amount will not change
the engine load at any given speed enough to affect the car much.
It may lower or increas your gas milage depending on lots of factors,
some of which are related to the car, and others related to how and
where you drive.

Like I said, I would talk to the experts in tires not in Hondas! (if
you even consider your dealer an expert)

The biggest problems you'll run into with taller tires is that the
speedometer will be off, and if you go significantly larger you'll also
notice less power, as it is harder to turn larger tires.

215/70-15s are both wider and taller than the stock 205/70-15s. If the
size of the sidewall is your only concern, I'd suggest getting some 13"
rims and mounting tires sized as closely to stock as you can get. This
will increase your sidewall hight and won't affect the speedo as much.

Check out this web site to compare the tire sizes:
<http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html>

Just to quickly compare a 215/70-15 to a 205/70-15, the 215 will be
about .6" taller and will cause your speedo to read 60 mph when you're
actually going about 62.

I was at a tire shop recently and noticed that at least one company
(BFG I think) is now making a light truck tire in 205/70-15, which may
give you the look you're after.

Personally, I want to have several sets of wheels. One steel set with
winter tires, a steel set with truck/off-road tires, and a shiny set of
18s or 20s with high performance tires.

Later,

Matt

The most common Tire size 'upgrade' for the CRV is to go from the stock tire size of 205/70-15 to 235/60-15.  This gives you a significantly wider tire with almost no difference in circumference (0.6 inches).  I have made this change and constantly get comments from other CRV'ers and 'car buffs' of how good it looks.  Personally I did it to have a better handling vehicle. If someone wants to see pics let me know.

The 'severe' consequences that occur to a CRV when you change tire size are:

- if you go with a taller (greater circumference) tire you loose some get up and go on an already underpowered (I have a '97) vehicle (IMHO)
- if you have the real-time four wheel drive 'option' (Wasn't an option on some model years, it just came with it) and you don't change the tire size on all four tires at the same time, and have a greater than 2% difference in circumference between front and rear, you will be in a situation where the 4 wheel drive will try and engage all the time and will slowly destroy both the front and rear drivetrains, and void your warranty

The on board computer will deliver the required amount of fuel to the engine based upon road speed, engine speed, engine load, outside temp., oxygen content of the incoming air, etc, and will adjust accordingly (You have to press the gas pedal down to go up a hill & maintain speed, do you think the computer says, "you aren't going very fast, you can't have more gas"?)

A very easy way to get a better look is to put the exact same tires on
a 15x7 inch wheel, in place of the 15x6.5's.
It beefs the tires up, sets them out slightly (with a more shallow
offset), and affects nothing else significantly.
