The AC compressor runs off a belt off the engine. So does the anternator, so running an electric motor would be no more efficiant, since all the electrical energy the alternator puts out also comes from the engine. The battery just stores excess electrical power from the alternator also. Basically all the energy the car uses come from the engine.

Having the AC on in any car will take power from the engine. the amount of power that it takes to run the AC compressor is directly taken from the engine and there's no way to avoid this...good luck.

I am a bit surprised that the EMM does not cycle the compressor off during hard acceleration. This is a fuel econnomy trick that started in the late '8's or early '90s. I will have to "play" with my CR-V to see if it does this or not.

If it was designed to do this, it would shut oiff the compressor only, not the fan. Most people would not notice it happening. The first cars with this just used the "Kick-down" switch on the accelerator. Now they let the computer figure out when to do it.

So that's what that switch on the floor underneath the accelerator pedal on my old truck ('85 Toyota) was for. I guessed it was for the rev limiter. Of course I'm no automotive expert and I'm not sure how a rev limiter works. Excuse my ignorance if I'm completely wrong about the above. I was sure everything today now works off the computer.
