I like Atonement. I have been reading it for awhile and it is very well written.

I'd recommend Colin Harrison's "The Havana Room."

I've not read anything else by the author, but it has some mystery in it and an interesting plot line.

Mystery and a good plot - well, can't ask for much more. I'll check it out. Thanks for the tip.

You're welcome.

Actually, I'm currently reading The Prince of Tides. I'm really enjoying it, too. If you remember Nick Nolte's narration from the movie, you can imagine a whole novel told in that "voice."

It paints a very vivid picture of the south and New York City, too.

How did you find out about "The Havana Room?" That sounds interesting.

I just found it on the shelf of a bookstore and bought it on impulse based on the description on the back cover.

I think it would also make a great movie because in addition to the great story, there are some interesting visual elements, too.

I have always liked books by VC Andrews. Lovely Bones is another great book if you don't mind it being a bit disturbing.

Did she do that series of books about missing children. For some reason, I think of the title "Flowers In The Attic." Was that hers?

Yes I think it was. Isn't her stuff a bit dark and creepy though? Not that I mind but...

I don't think I've actually read anything by V.C. Andrews.

How about Ken Follett? I've read a couple of his novels, and I think they were great.

Pillars of The Earth, in particular was a great read.

Prince of Tides is probably one of the best books I have ever read. I laughed , cried, got mad, happy, excited, etc. It's just everything a good book should be. However, there are lots of horrific things going on in this book ( I hope I didn't spoil anything for you Taggart, but you have probably already noticed that). So I wouldn't recommend it to anyone that doesn't like sadness or "bad things happening to good people" in books.

I saw the movie The Prince of Tides long before I read the book, so I knew about the horrific things, plus I'm almost done the book now.

There definitely is some serious subject matter in the story, which may not be enjoyed by everyone.

I think part of the reason I enjoy the book is because of the insight into the family relationships.

I really love the way Pat Conroy expresses himself. His use of words and how he makes them flow together are just amazing. I have heard The Great Santini is also supposed to be pretty good.
