Sounds like the one I received for my '98 CR-V. Here's a link to a
page on the CR-V Owners Information Exchange which contains the text
of the notification:
http://www.ptcruiserusa.com/hondasuv/crvix..._electrical.htmI did get the note in '99 and took my Honda in soon after. The
modification was quick, I was there less than 1/2 hour, and free.
They just add a protecting cover around a wiring harness where it
goes over the steering column.
The tires thing is a real can-o-worms. A lot depends on you. What
kind of driving do you do (mostly highway? on-road always? or some
off-road too?), the conditions (ice and snow? extreme summer heat?
both?), what's important to you (a quiet tire? better handling...a
performance tire? better gas mileage? how it looks?), and how much
you want to pay.
When I replaced the tires on my CR-V, I decided to keep the same size
and type, an "SUV" tire rather than a passenger car tire, and I
wanted an all-season radial...that narrowed it down. I checked
Consumer Reports' and their top rated tire (Nov 1999 report) was the
BF Goodrich Radial Long Trail T/A
An update in August 2000 reported a tire which tied the Long Trails
for top honors, the:
Bridgestone Dueler H/L
Other well rated tires were the:
Yokohama Geolandar H/T
and
Michelin LTX
Starting at the bottom, the Yokos and Michelins sounded good, but
weren't available in 205/70/15.
The Long Trails were tempting, but have a uni-directional tread, so
when the tires are rotated, the they have to rotate the same way so
the tires on the left have to stay on the left, ditto for the right
naturally. I include the spare in the rotations, and it would bother
me to have the spare mounted as one for the right side, and then
drive with it on left if one of those went flat.
The Bridgestones had a good rating and allowed more flexibility with
tire rotation. I like them. They're quieter than the original H/Ts
and, although down rated by Consumer Reports as "poor" in snow, they
also seem better in that respect than the originals.
In November 2001 Consumer Reports did another tire review, and with
it a new "top" tire:
Toyo M410 Open Country Radial
It's only low grade was "fair" for noise.
Of course the ratings were just by one company and were for a balance
of characteristics. You might check out CR's report and see if one
looks like it would fit your needs. If you haven't been there
already, take a look at the tire info on the CRViX:
