I am very happy with my 2002 CR-V EX, but I wonder why it has a non-
retractable antenna? It makes putting on a car cover difficult.

Is it safe to remove the antenna and then run through car wash. Will
water getting into the base cause any problems later.

You are not removing the base (Just the WHIP part). It's possible to BLOW
into the threaded section and get the standing water out prior to
reinstalling the WHIP.

This is not a water-tight seal even if you don't remove it.

Joni,
I was waiting to see if someone had a more positive answer for you. The antenna on my 87 Accord stopped going up and down too, but the motor is still working. On mine, the cable driving the antenna broke loose and the only fix is to replace the antenna. A replacement antenna is not too expensive, but the labor to replace it may be. I'd shop around to a couple of auto garages and car stereo stores, if you have any nearby, and see if someone could replace it for you at a price you can afford. Good luck.
David

Thanks so much David. I'll do some shopping around. Visits to the dealership are so costly!

Thanks Again!
-Joni

You are right about dealerships being costly, Joni. I was lucky enough to find a decent garage that has a Honda-certified mechanic. But a good car stereo shop that does installation might be a good option, too. Good luck.
David
