You could try JB weld. I did that, but my crack was only about two inches, but it's worth a try! I kept extra water and radiator fluid in my car, in case the weld broke, which it did, but it bought me an extra six months to save for a radiator. I bought a used radiator from a junk yard, but they let me check it before I paid for it.

Can't you also use an additive that will patch from the inside? Wouldn't that be a good back up for the large welded area?

I've tried that stuff, before the weld. It was semi-effective, but you're right, maybe it would help seal the larger weld.

I would recommend replacing the radiator, the a/c system does not need to be disturbed in any way.
Drain the coolant, remove the top and bottom radiator hoses, disconnect the electric cooling fan connectors, remove the auto trans cooler lines on the bottom of the radiator, remove the two top mounting brackets and pull the radiator up and out.
Remove the fan shrouds along with the cooling fans and transfer them on to the new radiator and re-install it.
