Hello! I am glad to find this group, as we are probably going to buy a CRV
(le?) very soon. I have two questions, for now.

1. apparently there is no anti-rust warranty, but I can buy some under-body
rust protection for $300 or so. Living in Toronto, is this advisable?

2. this will be the first new car I have bought. From your experience, is
there much room to negotiate on the sticker price?

Thanks for any input you have!

David,
I was told by my Honda dealer ship when
I purchased my CRV that the CRV has a 5 year rust
protection
warranty and any undercoating etc was not necessary.
So, it is probably a waste of money.

David,
Living in Toronto as well; with our winters, I took no chances in skipping
extra undercoating protection. There are many other places that will
undercoat the CR-V for probably half the price then what the dealership is
offering.

I plan to keep my CR-V for a hopefully a very long time, that is why I chose
to do the extra protection.

Mark

There is a lot of room for negotiating. You need to know where to start. The
APA (Automobile Protection Agency) out of Toronto can get you the dealer
cost information for the vehicle, freight/PDI and all of the accessories.
This information is critical for your own leverage. This information is
available for Americans, but is definitely not public knowledge in Canada.

Once we had this information, we added APA's profit margin recommendations
so the dealers could make a fair profit. We then conducted an on-line and
phone auction to see who could supply a vehicle at the price we arrived at.

Several dealers around Ontario met our requirements. Anyone who tried to
get cute with add ons, large admin fees, etc., we told to take a hike. Our
in-town dealer did not meet our price at first, but after I told them I
would drive a hundred miles to get my price, they eventually ponied up.

This is probably the best new vehicle purchase we have ever made. 5 speed
gives us 35 mpg (CDN) on the highway and we sometimes can achieve over 37
mpg on longer trips.

Good luck with your CRV. If you want more information on how we obtained the
Canadian dealer cost information for this vehicle and accessories, email me
at gpost@....

Regards,
Greg

Dave,

I have a CR-V and live just outside Toronto. As I
recall I did get the full package - rust and interior
protection. Yes, I would recommend the rust protection
for our winters especially. As to your second querry, I
found there was little room to negotiate. I believe I
got about $1,000 off the sticker if that. It can vary
depending upon the dealer, some I have heard give
more off, but don't be surprised if it's a thousand or
less.

Any more info you would like to know just ask. You'll
enjoy your CR-V that much I can tell you.

Good luck...
Jim
