I'd like to thank the people who responded to my Putnam hitch question.

Place your trailer behind the CR-V, a slight decline is correct for proper
towing. Measure the distance from underneath the factory bumper (the hitch
will be there), a drop is OK, raising the tongue of the trailer is
disasterous!!

Mine is a Reece hitch, and I went with a 21/2" drop. It seems to work out
well. 1" drop is not enough for most trailers, unless you have a home made
trailer with huge tires (like the ones people make from the box of 1/2
ton trucks...)
