Hello all CR-V types.

I have a 2001 and am having problems with the right
rear seatbelt almost always locking up. to reset it
you have to undo the belt and retract it and then put
it on again. I took it to the dealer three times and
they could not confirm the problem yet almost
everytime the problem occur when I use it. Has anyone
else experienced this problem?

Thanks,

Darren

Same problem here on the rear passenger side. They took my word for it and
have a seatbelt assembly waiting for my next visit.

Not with my CRV, but with another vehicle. If I pull it out slowly, it's
okay, but normal speed makes it lock up like you describe. No real solution
for you - you could try experimenting with the angle and the rate that
you pull it out at, sometimes that gives you an insight.

Yes, just discovered on my 2000 LX that I also have that problem with both
rear seat belts. Have not taken it back to the dealer.

Rene and Darren:

Are you bringing the seatbelt all the way
out first?

I have a 2000 LX and always felt that the
rear seat belts are way too sensitive. Both rear seatbelts lockup when you go
around the mildest of corners. When I took the vehicle back to the dealer in
the beginning, they said that this is a safety feature. When you have a children’s
car seat in the back, fully extend the belt and the ratchet mechanism will
engage.

But like you, if the only way to free the
belt is to take it off and allow the belt to retract, when the vehicle is
moving, that is not safe either!

Please let us know what your individual dealers
say

Thank you

Mine will lock up at any amount extension. If someone sits aboard and pulls the belt out a little, adjusts their butt and sits comfortably then tries to pull on it again it locks. I have had people feel closterphobic in the back because the seat belt would lock them tighter and tighter into the seat during a ride.

It's also only on the passenger side and I would never have known if my gfs mother hadn't pointed it out. All kinds of other people have said it happens to them when in the back of my V but they never told me until I had asked about it. Go figure.

The dealer couldn't recreate the problem but when I complained a second time they said fine, no problem, we'll get one in for you. These are also the guys who replace my 8 year old del Sol seatbelt without any charge for the same reason even though we Canadians don't get the lifetime warranty on that equipment.

My passenger rear seat also only locks up - the
driver's rear is fine. The dealer said that even
though they couldn't find the problem that they would
replace it. Obviously it is some quirk in the CR-V
that only some of us "lucky ones" experience.
Something to watch for though.
