2003 Pilot: I have recently started noticing a noise that is more noticible when I turn the steering wheel but is also present when I'm not turning. I feel it is probably in the power steering components. After the car warms up the noise goes away. The car has 105k miles. Oil reservoir is full. Belt has never been replaced. Any ideas of what I need to check or what could be going on?

Thanks.

I can't for sure but I have heard on the Odyssey that they have this problem and the Honda repair shops are now replacing the power steering pump to fix it. I have an '05 Odyssey and having the same problem and getting it looked at today.

I had this exact same situation a month ago. I took it in and it did not make the noise (ofcourse!). At that time I had to replace the timing belt (necessary maintenance at 105,000). My Pilot has 106,000. The noise continued after I spent $950 for the belt, other maintenance (not covered by warranty). I took it in today, a few weeks later after hearing the noise from time to time (when cold and when turning) and it was making the noise (horray!) and they determined it was the power steering pump and a bearing. They will need to replace the pump to fix. It was covered by my extended warranty. Horray again.

i have the same problem. in the moring i get an annoying whining sound when i turn the steering wheel or step on the gas. i changed the belt and the sound went away. then a week later it came back. the problem is, since the sound goes away after a couple of minutes, the mechanic couldn't tell what was wrong when i took it in.

after reading what you guys said, i think i have the same problem. i will take my car in today to have it checked.

thanks for the info guys. now at least i know what i am going in for when i go to the mechanic. i won't get screwed per say. lol.

btw my car is a 05 honda accord ex coupe. 6spd manual.

Yes, I have gotten this same noise on cars and it usually has been that the power steering pump in shot.

Try some soap on the belt first, bar soap, just rub a little on... More than likely at 105k it's the pump going ...
