Anyone know the easiest, cheapest way to boost some power on a 93 accord ex? I don't mean dumping some magical mystery juice in the gas tank; I'm talking about the best bang-for-the-buck power boosting mod for an accord.

I did, and it's an accord. I was just wondering if the new intakes, exhausts, etc. actually do anything for power, or if they just exist to make people feel like they're cool.

the most popular bolt-on mods are intakes, headers, and exhausts. and yes, they do work. most likely, you'll notice a small gain in top-end power. its all about bringing more air into the engine (intakes), letting more air out of the combustion chamber (headers) and allowing more air to pass freely out of the car (exhaust). since the engine will breathe easier, these mods do increase power

have you had any first-hand experience with any of these? I am curious as to how noticeable the power increase is.

no, i dont have any first hand experience (college budget, sorry) but expect headers to increase hp by 10...maybe 15. an intake will add roughly 3-5 hp. and a full cat-back exhaust can add up to 20 hp depending on how free-flowing u want it to be. keep in mind that these are just estimates and these mods work best when used together. but in the beginning, i would start with headers

ur talking like $350 headers - $500-700 exhaust - $250 intake... u want some serious power gain just go with nos and be done with it - best bang for the buck.

Even with all those mod's your still not gonna have a vette, I would save your money for a sports car if your looking for speed out of an accord. Also NOS will substantially lower the life expectancy on your motor.

I'm not hoping to get super performance out of my accord. I was just interested in making it a little faster. I get the idea that there really isn't any single mod that will make a noticeable difference. Maybe i'll just drive the damn thing around and be content. It's better than my last car.

swedecson, sorry, there really is no single mod that can make it go faster. It takes a whole number of parts to do so and that can be quite costly.

yeah, that's what I gather. You get what you pay for. I'm thinking more about improving the handling instead.

That's cool....at least you know what you want. There's plenty of options here too. Coilovers, Springs, Shocks....plenty of stuff to choose from.

Start with helping your engine breathe better. Hit it up with a $50 K&N HI-FLO stock replacement filter, or get a $135 short ram air intake. Then get a new muffler and GET YOUR RESONATOR CUT OUT well if ya like it loud hehehe. A nice muffler can run from $100-250 just depending if you like chrome or not. Make sure you get a straight through exhaust though ok.

If we wanted to have a vette I doubt any of us would be in this club huh? I agree w/you on the NOS part though, specially if your ride is stock. If you decide to go the NOS way you better do mild to mediam buildup on parts to handle the extra spurts of stress.

Sorry but your incorrect Accordboi, I see your point though, several areas combined will create more substantial hp and torque but you can just by adding an intake improve your acceleration and HP&TORQUE by just providing you engine w/more air.

Forget springs and also forget shocks. Just go straight for Coil-overs cuz then you get the best of both worlds. Make sure that the shocks are adjustable as they come in adj. and non adj.
Matt

hey trancetripn,

Oh no, I agree. You do get more HP/torque....but what i was gettin at was that it ain't enough for you to feel the kind of spurt he's lookin for. I have all the basic mods and each time i added the mod, I felt a minor change for the better. But nothing so dramatic that made me bow down. I felt most of the power kick in during high end with the exhaust/intake. The DC header seemed best in increasing mid-range power.

If you want to gain some horsepower, I-H-E (Intake-Headers-Exhaust) will be your first step. You should try putting in some Cold Air Intake and then some headers for better performance, then the exhausts too. For CAI, there are many brands in the market to choose from, and if you want cheap headers then try looking at junkyards for 2nd hand JASMA certified headers, or just wait at the For Sale section.
