Just bought a new 2001 crv, however when I am on the freeway I notice
if I take my foot off the gas pedal to slow down, when I re-
accelerate there seems to be a hesitation. Is this normal? Thanks

I don't think so... at least, mine does not behave like that. Get your
dealership to check it out and rectify the problem.

Do you have the A/C on when this happens?

Is it a 5 speed or an automatic?

Do you have cruise control, and does it work well? My "gut" feeling tells
me your problem may be related to the vacuum system - perhaps a minor leak...
if your cruise control does not function as well as you expect, this may
be a clue. Whatever it may be, your engine response should be crisp, and
no hesitation. See your dealer.

Yes the a/c is on and it seems not to be cooling very
well. But it is 95 almost everyday too>

Do you have the A/C set to "recirculate" or "fresh-air", the recirculate
works much better since it is only dealing with recirculation and cooling of
the INSIDE air!!
Whether it is 95 or 110 degrees, "recirculate" is the best way to cool any
vehicle. If the vehicle has sat closed-up in bright sun light, open all the
windows and thus blow-out the super-heated air. Then close the windows and
with the A/C set on "maximum" and "recirculate", the vehicle should cool
quickly.
If this doesn't help take the vehicle to a repair shop, they will check the
temperature of the air coming out of your vents, or check for leaking
refrigerant.

I know this doesn't have anything to do with the engine miss
problem...but since my area has had ten+ days of triple digit temps so
far (expecting more) I found that cracking the passenger windows down a
bit, pushing the a/c button, hitting the recirculating button (the
button above the a/c button), cranking the fan button all the way up for
a few minutes finally turning off the recirculating button and
eventually closing the windows (driver side first) gets rid of the hot
air from my V fast. Oh by the way my V is white...I'm sure that makes a
big difference. Boy am I happy that I choose that color especially
since I park outside under the sun all the time. But now I wonder if
going through that routine is wrong (is using the recirculating button
wrong?). And about the miss problem...any a/c in any vehicle kinda
changes the performance a bit. The engine does have to work harder.
Could that be the reason?

Guess I should have read Saltman's post before I went through that last
post of mine.

I will have a look in my 2000 Honda CR-V shop manual tonight and see if it says anything with respect to a hesitation on acceleration.

As a side note, just after I bought my CR-V I put a drop in K&N filter in it. My experience with my '91 Civic was that when I would accelerate from a corner there was a hesitation, a K&N filter in the Civic took care of that (and no the paper filter was not dirty).

I have a 2001 CR-V and would like to put a K&N filter in it. Anyone have
any idea what size fits the CR-V? Yes, I checked the K&N homepage.. no luck
there.

Good Afternoon Mike Persico:

The K&N number for a CR-V is 33-2104. This happens to be the same filter that is used in a 2000 Civic Si.

To Michael Nelson:

I suggest that some research is done with respect to the infamous "cold air systems". From the articles that I have read and the people that I have talked to, the bang for the buck leaves a lot to be desired. I used to have and article from a import performance magazine that did tests and found marginal increases in horsepower. A lot depends on the ambient air temperature, under the hood temperature, relative humidity, tuning of the intake plenum...

Tests were also done in comparison between the regular K&N drop in filter and the paper Honda filter. The upgrade to the K&N was better than the paper filter, but hard to justify to the intake system.

And, No, I don't work for K&N.

Happy motoring!

You may have to look under a 1999 model. That is where I found mine.

I was curious about the new FIPK system and asked K&N if they had it for
my V. They said no and gave me the number for the filter and also said
it would give my CRV four (4) additional horsepower.

Mike:

The 2000 CRV manual does not address a hesitation issue. The only symptoms they list that do not cause the MIL to illuminate are: Engine will not start, Hard starting, Cold fast idle too low, Cold fast idle too high, Idle speed fluctuates, Misfire or rough running, Low power and Engine stalls.
