Hi Andy,

No problem with the question or the way in which it was asked...

True the clarity won't be as high as with a nice indash or changer, but
there should not be any ill effects to your cassette player as a result
of using a portable CDP with adapter. When I was in high school, I did
exactly that for a few years; I passed on the portable to my aunt who
used it for a while in her car, and now I think my cousin is using it.
This unit was a Sony Car Discman, which came with the power and cassette
player adapters. There weren't two many on the market 12 years ago, but
I think you can find a decent one with skip-protection, etc. for around
$50 at Wal-Mart, CC, BB, etc.
