I'm considering getting a CR-V so I can carry my drum set
around town. I'm concerned though that the "picnic table" might
not be strong enough to repeatedly carry the weight of some of
the cases, which runs around 150-200 pounds (68-90 kg).

Yep, when you put all those stands in a single case it starts to
get heavier and heavier and heavier...

The case has wheels on it, so will repeatedly rolling that thing in
and out over the table eventually cause it to break? Should I get
a sheet of plywood and lay down in the back first??

I'd get a 1/2 sheet of 3/4" or 1" plywood, cut it to the size and shape of
the picnic table, and then replace the table with the plywood. If you ever
think you'll need the table, just swap it for the plywood. I've had my CR-V
for over a year, taken it camping 4-5 times and have yet to actually use the
picnic table.
