Can anyone shed some light on oil leaks on First Gen. Legends?I have a 90 LS model with approx 162k miles.I have had it for almost 5 years now haven't done anything major to it 'cept for a timing belt and water pump change.Lately I've been smelling burnt oil in the interior when I have the car running for an extended period.Placed it on a lift and saw oil was dripping down on exhaust.Took it to the dealer and they think I have a bad rear main seal.I thought it was coming from my oil pan gasket as I had them replaced the gasket a couple months ago.Any one had this prob before and what was the outcome?

The first gen Legends are notorious for valve cover leaks. That's a simple check, and the repair is cheap and easy. It could be something else as well, but it's worth checking. On the front of the engine (facing the grill) and the back (facing the firewall) there is a valve cover with 6 bolts, with a ribbed surface. The gasket there is rubber, and dries out with age. When it dries, it leaks oil. The replacement gasket is $13, and the only difficult part of the installation is putting the gasket in the right way, and holding the gasket as you put the cover back.
