Hello all, I am looking for some help and hopefully you guys can answer. I am in the process of purchasing a del sol and I am torn between a VTEC or Si model. Obviously, I would love to have the dohc version but my concern is gas milage. I commute to work 70 miles one way every day and I am looking to save on gas. I currently drive my `99 accord V6 and that is costing me 30 bucks a tank 3 times a week. So what I would like to know is what you VTEC and Si owners are getting for gas milage. If the VTEC milage is good enough, I can make a case to my wife! : ) Thanks all and hope to hear from you guys! Daniel `99 Accord V6 Ex `9x Del Sol ???

Well, I can't say anything about the VTEC model, but in just the 3 weeks that I've owned my Si, I've put 1000 miles on her and only had to fill her up maybe 4 times, at less than $20 a stop. I love my Si for mileage. ^_^ [

My Si is stock still, so I'm guessing it might be a little more efficient? I'm not sure how engine/perfrmance mods affect fuel efficiency. As for a/c... My baby doesn't have it, but I don't mind 'cause the wind on my face is more than enough to keep me comfortable when she's driving topless. ^_^ [

yeah...  i have a 'few' parts on mine :~)   but here's another advice to you--  if you do (and i suggest you do) get the vtec model, if you are worried about gas mileage, swap in an integra LS 5th gear.  it will give you great highway milegae, and you still have 1-4th to bang those mustangs in :)

Hi, In my 94 VTEC with now 162,000 miles, I'm still getting a very consistent 30 mpg. I usually put in about 10.5 gallons and around 300 miles per tank - but that's with like 60/40 highway/street. Since the highway mileage is usually at 80+, I think that I'm a little on the ineffecient side of the curve. Last week I was on vacation doing only street no highway and I probably could have done like 325 miles on the tank, even with a bunch of VTEC sprints. I like the idea Brian had about using the LS 5th gear. Do you have that in your del sol Brian? What are the rpms like at highway cruise speed? Did it just swap in? I've always hated that 5th wasn't taller. A bunch of times my hand would go for the imaginary 6th gear, but then I'd be like -damn, back to 5th... Jason Jason_Dickinson@...
