I've already learned a lot from reading the archives. Thanks to all
of you. I am now in the process of getting quotes for a new EX 5-
speed from all dealers in my area, and I have some questions I hope
some of you will be able to answer.
1) One dealer mentioned a $199.00 processing fee. Is this standard?
negotiable?
2) I know that it is wise to purchase most dealer-installed options
through an after market dealer. How about the security system? Should
I have dealers include it in the quote?
3) Will a dealer replace the original equipment tires, which I
understand are not very good, with better ones? If so, how does that
work in terms of price?
4) Is there anything else you can advise me on to help with this
process?

Thanks for your advice. I now have three quotes: one is at the MSRP,
one knocked off the $490.00 destination charge, and the third one is
$1000.00 below MSRP. Unfortunately, the lowest quote is an hour and a
half drive from me, so I have to decide how to use that quote to get
the local quote to go lower. By the way, that processing fee seems to
be a standard thing. I'll keep you informed.

Well, we test drove a new silver EX 5-speed today, and were very
pleased with the way it handled, shifted, etc. We have purchased one
for $21,182.00. We'll know Monday if the dealer can locate a white
one. If not, we'll take the silver. I presented the low quote
($21,182.00) to the local dealer, and the local dealer met the quote.
Everything went so smoothly that I wondered what we were overlooking.
We had thought about getting the cargo cover, but the saleswoman
showed us the out-of-sight storage compartment, so we really don't
need the cargo cover. We'll find out what the security system costs
on Monday. The saleswoman told us she would get it for us for dealer
cost. That's it for now. I'll keep you all informed.
