I was thinking of getting the Chilton for the civic/del sol to help with troubleshooting a whining sound I get when I idle for a minute or so, especially when the AC has been running. Not quite like a slipping belt, but something has a squeaky sound. I am not familiar enough yet with the layout of the del sol. Any recommendations for a comprehensive maintenance guide would be most appreciated.

I just got a book like that. It wasn't Chilton's but another competitor, I was in a hurry and that's what they had at the parts store. But if you've got the time to mail-order the exact book you want, you might as well get the shop manual published by Honda for the exact year, make and model you own. It might be $30 instead of $15 for a cheaper book that covers a whole bunch of models, but if you paid thousands bought the car you might as well get the most authoritative manual about it. Anyway, I think the Del Sol engine fans are electric, and they don't come on until the engine is hot. Does the noise start suddenly? If your fan bearing is making noise, it's probably not cooling like it should, best to replace it now.

Thanks for the advice. I have been looking online for a factory manual, but haven't had much luck. I read that there are some inaccuracies in the Chilton, but would rather have something give me a lay of the land. I tried Honda's website and they had no link for manuals. ebay was the only place that seemed to have any, but I'd rather do without ebay. Any suggestions?

My 1994 del Sol got stolen, trashed, and recovered, so for the restoration effort I decided to splurge for a new set of manuals from Helm: <http://www.helminc.com/> $62 for a new shop manual (the '94 has since gone out of print) -- electrical troubleshooting and body repair manuals were $37-39. Good luck, Tyler
