The following are the major obstacles to be overcome in this swap:
1.Getting oil to the VTEC. ? The b18a block does not have an oil passage build into the block that the other B series VTEC Blocks have. The Oil must be delivered to the backside of the head via a HP hose. There is a hex head pipe plug on the back of the head (back being where the distributor is). That plug can be removed and, with a little thread tapping, can be reused to plug the existing VTEC oil passage on the head gasket surface of the head.
2. The head to block dowels are on the wrong side of the head. You can either have a machine shop bore out the two appropriate head bolt holes to 14mm or not use them at all (most serious race motors do not have dowel pins from the head to the block.
3. If you use the b16a of the type R pistons, you WILL HAVE SERIOUS DETONATION PROBLEMS DUE TO COMPRESSION. The calculated CR of a b16a head, b18a block, crank, and rods with b16a pistons is roughly 11.8:1, That means Super Unleaded all the time, MINIMUM, and even that won?t be enough if it gets above 90 degrees F outside. Cold plugs, 15 degrees of timing, WaterWetter, and a 165-degree thermostat help, along with octane boost. ? The only real fix is to get a computer that is chipped for the longer stroke, higher compression engine.
4. If you are putting this in a CRX, the motor grows be 7mm in height. I would kill for a SiR like bulging hood.
5. Use the B16A Oil pump, the B18a water pump, head gasket, and timing belt.
6. If you still want to rev past 7000 (safely), order the ARP 8mm connecting rod bolts for Honda motors. DO NOT order the ones that they have listed for 1.8L Honda/Acura. Those are 9mm and will not fit the LS rods.
7. Use any good ring, but make sure that the set you have has a chrome face STEEL ring. The standard ring is Chrome faced iron and is susceptible to fracture due to detonation. On the first pass I made with this swap, detonation broke all 4 #1 rings and trashed out all 4 pistons.
8. Use only Honda bearings, - for the b18a. The b16a bearings do not have oil holes so you loose your bottom of the piston lubrication and cooling.

After the R&D, the motor is bullet proof. It has a larger displacement that the type R and higher compression. It has torque for days :| have a day
