Hi there,

I'm looking at buying a 1997 crv, really nice shape from the pics. it's got 275,000kms on it. They are asking $4200 CDN. I am going to look at it tomorrow and I'll ask about the timing belt and if it's changed and if it leaks oil. Have you guys seen these engines go a long ways??? It's a second vehicle so I'm looking for something cheap naturally. I imagine if I take care of it, it'll go for a long time yet. Just looking for some others who share my view

Thanks,

Rick

I would ask for proof showing regular maintenance has been performed. I do not know specifics about these engines, but if oil changes have been done at reasonable intervals, and major services completed on schedule (especially that "Timing Belt") the engine should have lots of life left in it. At 275,000 KM's I'd be looking at other stuff too! A pristine body at 275,000 km's could mean "body work" or was parked indoors; need to establish. Then I'd look at brakes and electrical. If you are not a mechanic or just don't know what to look for when inspecting a used vehicle, I'd be wary about 275,000 km.

Hopefully the mechanics on this Forum will chime in about the more technical topics that could cost BIG Bucks! The drive train being a major!!!

If the seller says, "...I didn't keep the maintenance records...", walk away quickly! Hope this helps you decide.
