Hi guys,

I have an 89 1.6i CRX SI DOHC, it was imported from Japan, I live in the UK.

I have just dropped the standard exhaust system out and in doing so have replaced it with a Janspeed system. The Standard system had a CAT, the new system does not it goes straight through from the downpipe. Unfortunately now my LAMDA sensor is reading that I have a CAT problem. I believe the LAMBDA sensor checks exhaust emission to see if they are running too lean or too rich, I believe it then changes the ECU to run the engine most efficiently. Basically without this sensor plugged in my engine will not last long (or so I have heard).
I believe there are a few ways round this.

1. Just have the back box and silencer of the performance system and keep the cat in - rather not do this.

2. Drill the LAMBDA sensor in to the new system as there is currently no provision for it, and hope that without the CAT in it will still work OK.

3. Stick a screwdriver through the current CAT.

If anyone has any experience/ideas on these solutions or getting round this problem I would love to hear them.

Cheers.
