When you buy K&N filters, they're sold with a bottle of cleaner and a bottle oil. In my Honda Civic 93, I just cleaned the filter in a bucket of mild detergent occassionally oiling the filter every 5000km. Still runnung up to now and the dust here in Manila is horrible.

Larry you're joking...right? If I remember when I got my first K&N for my old truck I thought it was already oiled. If you're running around with a "dry" K&N...you're killing your CR-V. Without the oil you're basically running without a filter. Soon I'll be getting a K&N for my '00 CR-V. I expect the cotton element to be red which tells me that the filter is oiled. If you're filter came "dry"...then the instructions should have told you about oiling it. And if you meant "adding oil to an already oiled filter"...K&N says in their instructions that spraying oil to the outside of the element will refresh the filter. If you think I misunderstood your message I've attached it showing the part where you asked if "using oil on the filter would help trap dirt better". I originally took it that you didn't know that the K&N was oil-impregnated. I just hope you're not running "dry". And cleaning comes easily with a K&N Filter Charger Cleaning Kit. My old filter went a LONG way between cleanings.
