I am currently using a K&N airfiter, but not the one to replace the Honda filter. Actually, what I did was start off with an aftermarket air intake system. It worked O.K. but I didn't like the extra loudness, and was suspicious of the filter that came with it. Having already removed the stock filter box and piping, I decided to do a little experimenting. I cut a piece of 3" pipe about 10" long and inserted it into the "accordion" like piece of the Honda intake piping and attached that back onto the intake. This quietened the sound quite abit, as this piece has a "horn" arrangement on it which Honda engineers designed to be used as a resonance dampener.
I drove with this for a while, then discovered I could get a K&N filter to replace the barrel shaped filter I got with the original intake kit. I purchased the K&N and have been using it for about 3 months now. It does increase the airflow to the engine, and I noticed the throttle response was more immediate, but whether it increased horsepower or not, I cannot say. The end result is, I have a homemade air intake system which is about half the cost of a manufactured unit, and of much better quality, and which also improves the performance of my CR-V. Hopefully this all makes sense. I just finished one to many egg-nogs and am feeling rather tipsy at the moment. Happy New Year everyone!
