I recently bought a '91 Legend LS with 110,000 miles on it from an acura dealership. It is in really good shape and beautiful. I also got a 2-yr warranty(24,000 miles) on engine and transmission. Has anyone heard of a 10-year old Legend with engine or transmission problems? The reason I'm asking is because the warranty that I purchased($1,500) is cancellable. I can cancel it and get refunded any time. So, I was thinking about doing it if none of you think that either the engine or transmission should be fine for another 2 years.

If the Legend was well cared for and maintained, then you may not neeed the warranty. However, I would keep it. A common problem for Honda/Acura cars is for the plastic radiator top tank to crack and leak. This is not a big problem if you get it fixed right away. However, some owners fail to realize this in time as the car still cools for a weeks after it cracks, and they only realize after the car overheats. When the car overheats, it could cause damage to the headgaskets. The headgasket problem may not show right away, but later it my show up as a blown headgasket. The problem is, you don't know what the history of the car was, and if any of this occured with the previous owner. There are many 91+ Legend owners who have 200K + miles on their cars, with no problems. There are also a buch who have had the headgasket problem with lower 100K miles. Tranny failure on a Legend is not that common. If you maintained it well, and used Honda ATF only, then it last a long time. And yes, use Honda ATF. The manual does say you can use Dexron, but Honda ATF has an additive which makes it a high silone base to help in the lubrication and shifting of the tranny. Dexron does not have this. This information is provided via many Legend owners, some Acura techs, and a transmission rebuilder who rebuilds Honda/Acura trannies for Honda/Acura dealers nation wide who posts in antoher Legend Forums.
