Does anyone have any information on the life of the battery in the
Insight and/or hybrid Civic, and its replacement cost?

My car will be two years old in Nov. Back then the salesman said it would cost
$2000.00
That was two years ago. I got the warrenty package ,its for 100,000.00 miles. I
have 66,000 on my car now! I hope that helps some. Bye for now. Joe

I have a 2001 insight and the battery (I assume you mean the battery
motor) has lasted 27 months. When I originally bought the car, I was
told the battery motor is under warranty for 10 years. You shouldn't
have any problems with that part of the car no matter how much you
drive.
Unless anything has changed since 2001, the 10 year warranty applies
to all insights. Mine has approx 43,300 miles. If you are looking to
buy a new insight, be sure and get a knowledgable sales person and
ask all the questions you like!

Actually, the hybrid battery pack in the back has a 10
year or 80,000 mile warranty. The front battery cost
me ~$100 when it died. I'm at a 112,000 miles now and
it's allrunning pretty good with the exception of the
engine light going on and off occasionally. I live in
Florida where it's really humid so I don't worry too
much about it.

Hey Dan:
The mileage great. have you had any big maintenance item yet? This summer I
went on
vacation ,form NJ went to Utah and Montana put over 6,000 miles on the car. For
the first time I put some gas additives, for cleaning the tank injectors. Half
way into the trip the ( Engine lite ) came on. So the
engine lite came on, it shut down the electric motor.I was in Billings MT went
to the Honda dealership their. Here it was friday 1:00 in the afternoon. At this
the time the is
running only on gas. They said we can check the front battery and change the
oil.I had
to wait till monday to check the other half.If they found something wrong they
would have to sent for parts.I could not wait till monday. so they did the check
and reset the engine
lite. I leave the parking lot the lite comes back on. So I drove back to my
dealership in NJ.So in Montana the dealership wasn't a emercy since I could
still drive the car.NJ dealership checkes the car out and said my catalytic
converter was going bad. So something like o2 senor, gas cap loose. Is enouch to
trip the lite and motor goes off line.
Has anybody else experience anything like this?

The 2000 has a recall on the PCU which interfaces with
the O2 sensors and causes false readings. The electric
motor doesn't shut down though. My engine light just
went back out again. It doesn't seem to hurt anything.
