If it's like our 90 LX, there are actually two
timing belts to replace. Our mechanic always replaces
the water pump at the same time, as preventive
maintenence, and there is a seal or two that are hard to get
to without taking off the belt. The $400 doesn't
sound too out of line for this part, have no idea on
the other car's value. We replaced the automatic last
year after debating whether to "junk" the car. She now
has over 242,000 on the original engine, still driven
daily :^)
